Residents in parts of Komani are facing continued electricity outages after repair work on a major power line was delayed by underground water.

In an update issued by Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, the municipality confirmed that progress on the Crankshaw line — which feeds Frontier Hospital, a portion of Top Town and Bergsig — has been affected.

Underground water slows down repair process

According to the municipality, underground water is interfering with repair work on the Western Substation line.

“The Crankshaw line feeding Frontier Hospital, portion of Top Town and Bergsig work is delayed by underground water interfering with the repair process,” the statement read.

The municipality said the district municipality has been approached to assist with removing water from the trench to allow technicians to continue safely with the repairs.

The delay has prolonged outages in Bergsig and parts of Top Town, with residents anxiously awaiting restoration.

Progress reported in New Rest and Factory Road

In a separate update, the municipality reported progress in New Rest and along Factory Road.

Technical teams have detected the fault in that area. The damaged cable has been exposed and termination has been completed.

“The next stage in the repair process will be cable joining which will commence soon,” the municipality said.

Cable joining is a critical phase in restoring supply, as it reconnects sections of damaged underground cable before electricity can be safely switched back on.

Residents urged to remain patient

While no specific timeframes were provided for full restoration, the municipality indicated that teams are actively working on both sites.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain patient as work continues and to treat all electrical connections as live until official confirmation of restoration is issued.
