The South African Youth Council (SAYC) Chris Hani Region has called for improved access to youth development programmes across the district.

The council met with the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) in Komani on Wednesday, July 22. The engagement was also attended by the Chris Hani District Municipality’s Special Programmes Unit youth coordinator.

During the meeting, SAYC submitted a memorandum calling for better delivery of NYDA services at district level. The organisation also handed over resolutions adopted during the Chris Hani District Youth Development Workshop.

The resolutions contain priorities and recommendations raised by young people during the workshop.

According to SAYC, the NYDA committed to working with local stakeholders and pursuing the establishment of a fully functional district office in Chris Hani. The proposed office would make NYDA programmes and support services more accessible to young people in the area.

The two organisations also agreed to explore a system for monitoring people and businesses supported by the NYDA.

This would include assessing the impact of beneficiaries and encouraging them to give back through mentorship, enterprise development, job creation and community service.

SAYC welcomed the commitments and said it would continue working with the NYDA and the district municipality to expand opportunities for young people.
