Eastern Cape learners compete in Provincial Language Festival.

The Eastern Cape Department of Education hosted a three-day Provincial Language Festival Competition at the Mandla Makupula Education Leadership Institute from 6 to 8 October 2026.

Organised by the department’s Primary Curriculum Directorate, the event brought together learners from all 12 education districts across the province.

Learners competed in Spelling Bee (Grade 3), Word Relay (Grades 4 to 6), and Creative Writing and Book Review (Grade 7).

The competition begins at school level, progresses to district level and concludes at provincial level, bringing together learners who have performed well in earlier rounds.

The initiative aims to strengthen literacy skills, build confidence, encourage a love for languages and recognise learners for their achievements.
