KOMANI: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms affecting Komani and surrounding areas, with the warning remaining in effect until 23:59 on Monday, 12 October 2026.

According to SAWS, a surface trough and upper-air disturbances are expected to create conditions favourable for severe thunderstorms across parts of the Eastern Cape.

The storms could bring excessive lightning, hail, strong winds and heavy downpours, potentially resulting in localised flooding of roads and low-lying bridges.

SAWS has warned that severe weather could cause damage to homes, buildings and temporary structures, as well as disruptions to electricity and communication services.

There is also a risk of damage to crops, loss of livestock and danger to human life.

Residents are advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid crossing flooded roads or bridges, and stay away from exposed areas during lightning activity.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution, particularly where heavy rainfall reduces visibility or causes water to accumulate on roads.
