EASTERN CAPE – Traffic has resumed along affected sections of the N2 and R61 following protests that disrupted travel in several parts of the Eastern Cape.

The protests affected EmaXesibeni, KwaBhaca and Qumbu along the N2, as well as the R61 in Port St Johns.

According to the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, the protests reportedly stemmed from demands by mini-truck owners to be allowed to mine sand without restrictions or permits.

The matter is receiving attention from the relevant environmental authorities, while law enforcement continues to monitor the situation.
