Residents in Komani Park say they have been battling ongoing electricity disruptions for approximately eight days, reportedly linked to cable faults at the Doornplace electricity boxes.
According to complaints received by Komani News, households in parts of the area have experienced unstable or no power supply, affecting daily activities such as cooking, refrigeration and general household routines.
Concerns Over “Bridged” Cable Repairs
Community members allege that in at least one instance, damaged cables inside a Doornplace electricity box were “bridged” with wire rather than fully replaced. Residents have questioned whether this constitutes a temporary solution and whether it complies with required electrical safety standards.
There are also claims that some electricity box doors in the area are damaged or left open, exposing internal wiring and components to the elements. Residents say these issues have been raised with authorities since June 2024, but they believe the underlying cable problems have not been permanently resolved.
Safety and Infrastructure Risks
Electricity distribution boxes form a key part of neighbourhood power networks. If not properly secured and maintained, exposed infrastructure can present safety risks, particularly to children and pedestrians.
Residents have expressed concern that repeated temporary repairs could contribute to further outages if underlying cable faults are not fully addressed. Some community members also feel that their area is not receiving the same urgency of response as other parts of town.
Komani Park falls under the jurisdiction of the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, which is responsible for electricity distribution and infrastructure maintenance in the area.
