Car washers moved as municipality steps up crackdown
Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality has conducted another operation to remove illegal car washers operating on the streets of Komani.
The municipality said the operators have been relocated to a site made available by the municipality for people who were previously washing cars on the streets.
According to the municipality, illegal car washing has contributed to dirt, damage to road surfaces and a nuisance to members of the public.
The municipality has appealed to the taxi industry, metered taxi operators and motorists to use only legal car washes with valid business permits.
It said clear signage has also been erected to inform motorists that certain areas are not demarcated for car washing.
The latest operation forms part of the municipality’s efforts to move car-washing activities away from streets and into designated areas.
The municipality has not provided details on the number of operators relocated or the location of the site made available for the car washers.
