A relative has raised concerns about a possible murder, but police say a postmortem is needed to establish the cause of death.
Police have opened an inquest docket after the body of a man was discovered at a house in Sandringham, Komani, on Tuesday, 27 October 2026.
According to Komani SAPS spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, the body was found on a bed, under blankets, and was already in a state of decomposition when it was discovered.
In a response to an enquiry from Komani News on Wednesday, 28 October, Mgolodela confirmed that police had opened an inquest docket into the death.
“No foul play can be detected at the moment as there are no body injuries,” Mgolodela said.
She added that a postmortem would be conducted to determine the actual cause of death.
Relative raises concerns about possible murder
A relative of the deceased contacted Komani News seeking information about the incident and alleged that the man had been murdered.
The relative further claimed that a suspect was in police custody and that the person was known to the deceased.
However, Komani News has not independently verified these claims. In its response, SAPS did not confirm an arrest or state that the death was being investigated as a murder.
The relative told Komani News that the information they had received came from people who discovered the body.
Postmortem expected to establish cause of death
The cause of death has not yet been established. A postmortem is expected to provide further clarity on the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Komani News will provide further updates should SAPS release additional information about the case.
For now, police have confirmed the discovery of the body at a home in Sandringham, while the cause of death remains undetermined. The claims of a possible murder and an alleged suspect in custody remain unconfirmed.
