South African motorists could see some relief at the pumps next week, with diesel prices expected to decrease by approximately R1.45 per litre when the next fuel price adjustments take effect on Wednesday, 4 November 2026.
According to preliminary, unaudited fuel price estimates dated 28 October 2026, diesel users could benefit from a substantial reduction, while petrol prices are expected to remain largely unchanged.
However, households relying on paraffin could face a significant increase, with prices estimated to rise by R2.81 per litre.
The latest estimates indicate the following possible adjustments:
- Diesel 50ppm: Decrease of approximately R1.45 per litre.
- Petrol 95 ULP: Little to no change expected.
- Paraffin: Increase of approximately R2.81 per litre.
The forecast also refers to government relief measures of R3 per litre on diesel and R1.50 per litre on petrol.
However, the anticipated benefits are expected to be partially offset by fuel price under-recoveries and a slate levy, making the final adjustments difficult to predict accurately.
A reduction in diesel prices would be welcome news for transport operators, farmers and businesses that rely heavily on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
On the other hand, the projected increase in paraffin prices could place additional financial pressure on households that depend on the fuel for cooking, heating and other domestic needs.
The figures remain estimates and have not yet been officially confirmed. The final fuel price adjustments for November will be determined through the government’s official fuel pricing process.
The new prices are scheduled to take effect on Wednesday, 4 November 2026.
