Three people lost their lives in a head-on collision involving an Audi and a Toyota Avanza on the N2 near Colchester, before Kinkelbos in the direction of Makhanda, on Sunday evening, 1 November 2026.
The collision occurred at approximately 18:00 when the two vehicles, travelling in opposite directions, collided head-on.
According to preliminary reports, the Toyota Avanza was travelling from Makhanda and was occupied by a male driver. The Audi had two occupants, a male driver and a female passenger.
All three occupants died in the collision.
The impact left all three victims trapped inside the wreckage of their vehicles. Emergency personnel had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate their bodies.
The exact cause of the collision has not yet been established, and the circumstances leading to the crash remain under investigation.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Kinkelbos SAPS as police continue their investigation into the incident.
