The South African Communist Party (SACP) has described a voting occasion involving its Eastern Cape leadership as a historic moment in the party’s political history.
SACP Eastern Cape Provincial Secretary Xolile Nqatha cast his vote, accompanied by members of the party’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).
In a statement shared on social media, the SACP Eastern Cape described the occasion as an important milestone for the party and its continued participation in shaping South Africa’s political future.
The party said the occasion marked a new chapter in its history, highlighting the significance of the moment for its leadership and members.
The SACP has traditionally been part of the tripartite alliance alongside the African National Congress (ANC) and the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU).
However, the party has taken steps towards contesting elections independently, marking a significant shift in its political approach.
The Eastern Cape leadership’s participation in the voting process comes as the party seeks to strengthen its political identity and establish a more independent electoral presence.
The SACP described the occasion as the beginning of a new chapter in the party’s history.
