Two brothers from the Cofimvaba area have been sentenced to prison for murder and attempted murder following a violent incident in November 2025.
Anele Mjambana (35) and Sandiso Mjambana (37), both from Mahlubini Locality, were sentenced by the Cacadu High Court on 29 October 2026.
According to police, the incident occurred on 15 November 2025 when the brothers went to the home of a 52-year-old man who was allegedly involved in a romantic relationship with Anele’s girlfriend.
The brothers broke a window to enter the house, where Anele fatally assaulted the man. Sandiso assaulted Anele’s 36-year-old girlfriend with a glass object, causing permanent damage to one of her eyes.
Anele received 20 years’ imprisonment for murder and five years for housebreaking with intent to commit an offence.
Sandiso was sentenced to 15 years for attempted murder and three years for malicious damage to property.
The sentences will run concurrently, resulting in effective prison terms of 20 years for Anele and 15 years for Sandiso.
Both men were also declared unfit to possess firearms.
District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph welcomed the sentences, saying they should serve as a warning that acts of violence will not be tolerated.
