KOMANI: The African National Congress (ANC) has seen its share of the vote fall further in Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, with the latest provisional election results showing the party at 44.44%.
According to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) results dashboard at 16:14 on Thursday, 5 November 2026, counting had reached 88%.
The ANC remains in the lead with 44.44%, representing 48,681 votes. This is down from the 46.69% recorded earlier when counting stood at 82%.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) remains in second place with 15.97%, followed by the South African Communist Party (SACP) on 9.77%.
The Independents have increased their share from 7.86% to 8.97%, while the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) stand at 5.38%.
The latest figures show the ANC continuing to lose ground as more results are captured, while The Independents have gained support compared with the previous update.
The IEC dashboard also shows that 21 of the municipality's 68 council seats have been allocated so far. The ANC has secured 15 of these seats, the DA three, while the SACP, The Independents and Patriotic Alliance each have one.
However, counting is still underway, and the final composition of the council has not yet been determined.
With the ANC now well below the 50% mark in the provisional count, the possibility of a coalition government remains.

Should the ANC fail to reach that number once counting is completed, it may need support from another party to retain control of the municipality.
The final results will determine whether the ANC can govern alone or whether coalition negotiations will be required.
