Somali National Arrested for Alleged Fraud at N6 Roadblock

A Somali national has been arrested for alleged fraud after reportedly presenting suspected fraudulent identification documents during a multidisciplinary roadblock operation on the N6 near Macleantown.

The operation was conducted by the Eastern Cape Missing Person Unit in partnership with SAPS Macleantown, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the Department of Employment and Labour, Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM) Law Enforcement, Red Alert Security and Environmental Health.

According to the Eastern Cape Missing Person Unit, the suspect allegedly produced a suspected fraudulent South African identity document and driver’s licence when stopped by law enforcement officers.

The suspect was arrested on allegations of fraud and will be processed through the criminal justice system.

The roadblock formed part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety, combat crime and ensure compliance with South African laws.

Authorities said more than 200 vehicles were stopped and inspected during the operation.

Traffic officers also issued fines totalling approximately R8,500 for various traffic law infringements committed by motorists.

The Eastern Cape Missing Person Unit said the joint operation demonstrated the continued cooperation between law enforcement agencies and other government departments in tackling crime and promoting safer roads across the province.
