Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality has officially reopened Eastern Beach and Orient Beach in East London following safety assessments conducted after a fatal shark attack earlier this week.

The municipality confirmed that both beaches are once again open to the public after being temporarily closed as a precautionary measure following the incident.

In a public notice, the metro urged beachgoers to exercise caution and swim only in designated areas monitored by lifeguards.

Lifeguard operating hours are from 08:30 to 17:00 daily.

Residents and visitors have been advised against swimming outside these hours, as lifeguard supervision and emergency assistance may not be available.

The municipality also indicated that it intends to extend lifeguard operating hours during the festive season to accommodate increased beach activity.
