Walter Sisulu University (WSU) entrepreneur and innovator Zanodumo Godlimpi has secured R450,000 in funding for his pneumatic prosthetic foot innovation following another national recognition.

Godlimpi was recently named a finalist in the Disability Empowerment category at the South African Breweries (SAB) Foundation Social Innovation and Disability Empowerment Awards.

The funding will support the innovation’s progress towards clinical validation, regulatory approval and commercialisation.

The achievement comes less than a year after Godlimpi was named the national Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education (EDHE) Studentpreneur of the Year.

Godlimpi said his previous awards had provided valuable recognition and resources, including equipment and travel funding, to support the next phase of testing.

The latest recognition marks another step towards developing the innovation into a practical mobility solution for people who use prosthetic limbs.
