A Nigerian national has been arrested in Kugompo (East London) following an intelligence-driven operation targeting suspected drug-related activities and immigration offences.
According to a statement issued by the Eastern Cape Missing Person and Trafficking Unit (ECMPTU), the male suspect was arrested on allegations of dealing in drugs and contravening immigration-related legislation.
The joint operation involved Kugompo Crime Intelligence, Kugompo SAPS, the ECMPTU and Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality Traffic Services.
Authorities said the arrest followed intelligence gathered by law-enforcement agencies as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related offences and immigration violations in the area.
The suspect is expected to appear in court to face the allegations.
The ECMPTU indicated that further arrests are expected as investigations continue.
The statement did not specify when the arrest took place, whether drugs were seized or when the suspect is expected to appear in court.
