The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality has officially opened a newly constructed electricity substation in Sterkstroom, with officials saying the project is expected to help stabilise power supply in the area.

Executive Mayor Cllr Madoda Papiyana led a municipal delegation to the site on 25 May 2026 for the official opening ceremony. The delegation included members of the Mayoral Committee, the local ward councillor, municipal officials, and the contractor involved in the project.

According to the municipality, the substation has already been energised, tested, and connected to the local electricity network, with power currently being supplied to the community.

The project forms part of the municipality’s broader efforts to strengthen ageing electricity infrastructure and improve service delivery across parts of the Enoch Mgijima municipal area.

The municipality also thanked contractors, municipal officials, and members of the community for their cooperation during the construction and testing phases of the project.
