Ezibeleni Residents Unite in March Against GBV

Residents of Ezibeleni gathered in strong numbers on 22 November 2025, taking to the streets to raise their voices against gender-based violence (GBV). The march, which started at Ezibeleni Shopping Centre and moved towards Siyacheba Barbershop, served as a community-driven call for protection, awareness, and solidarity.

Organisers encouraged participants to dress in all black, symbolising mourning for victims and a united stance against continued violence in homes, schools, and public spaces.

Community Stands Together for Safety and Awareness

The event aimed to empower residents by ensuring they understand the realities of GBV and know where to turn for help. Marchers emphasised the importance of creating a safer environment, particularly for women and children, who remain disproportionately affected.

The initiative highlighted the need for stronger community involvement, improved awareness campaigns, and consistent support structures for those facing abuse.

A March Rooted in Unity and Action

While the march lasted from 10:00am to 11:00am, its impact resonated far beyond the hour. Community members of all ages attended, demonstrating collective commitment to ending violence and building a safer Ezibeleni.

Local groups encouraged residents to remain vigilant and continue educating one another about available support systems, emphasising that preventing GBV requires ongoing effort from every part of the community.

The Ezibeleni march added to a growing number of grassroots movements across the Eastern Cape, showing how communities can lead meaningful social change. Residents expressed hope that awareness efforts will translate into better support, earlier reporting of abuse, and strengthened safety networks.
