Economic Freedom Fighters Donates Sanitary Towels to Zolani Senior Secondary
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Enoch Mgijima area conducted a sanitary towel donation drive at Zolani Senior Secondary School in Whittlesea on Friday.
The initiative was led by SRCT members under the leadership of Chairperson Mandilakhe Matsolo as part of a local programme aimed at supporting learners.
According to organisers, the donation seeks to restore dignity to young girls by ensuring they have access to essential hygiene products.
Access to sanitary towels remains a challenge for some learners, particularly in rural and under-resourced communities, and lack of access can result in absenteeism and disrupted learning.
Supporting Girls’ Education
The organisers stated that addressing menstrual health is a key step in empowering young women to remain focused on their education. By providing sanitary towels directly to the school, the programme aims to ensure that learners can attend classes with confidence and without interruption.
Menstrual health management has become an important topic in schools across the Eastern Cape and the country, with various organisations, political parties, NGOs and private donors running similar outreach initiatives.
Community-Based Initiative
The EFF’s local structure described the donation as part of its ongoing community engagement efforts within the Enoch Mgijima municipal area. Friday’s programme forms part of a broader campaign to support vulnerable learners and promote equal access to education.
School-based hygiene drives have been widely recognised as a practical intervention to reduce stigma and absenteeism among girls.
Community members and stakeholders often encourage continued collaboration between schools, civic organisations and political structures to address basic needs that impact education outcomes in local communities.
