Police Seize R385,000 in Counterfeit Goods in Komani

Police in the Eastern Cape have seized counterfeit goods valued at R385,000 during an operation conducted in Komani this week.

According to a media statement issued by the Office of the Provincial Commissioner: Eastern Cape, the operation was carried out on Thursday, 12 February 2026, by members attached to Nxuba K9, Middelburg K9, Komani Flying Squad and a Brand Investigator.

Four Shops Raided

The statement confirmed that four shops in Komani were raided as part of a focused operation targeting the sale of counterfeit goods.

Items seized during the operation included Smell Fresh and Doctor Toothbrushes, Louis Vitton mats, Razlor boxes, skin lightening creams, Adcodol tablets, illicit cigarettes and Sex Enchanted tablets.

Police stated that the combined estimated value of the confiscated goods amounts to R385,000.

Goods to Be Destroyed

Authorities confirmed that all seized items will be transported to the Counterfeit Depot in Durban for destruction, in line with standard procedures relating to counterfeit merchandise.

The Chris Hani District Commissioner, Major General Rudolph Adolph, expressed satisfaction with what the statement described as a string of successes in recovering counterfeit goods from businesses within the district.

The Provincial Commissioner’s office highlighted that counterfeit goods have severe legal, financial and safety consequences for sellers, consumers and the country’s economy.

Police have encouraged members of the public to report the sale of suspected counterfeit goods to their nearest police station.
