COSAS Chris Hani Expresses Support for Lusanda Sizani Amid Integrity Process

The Congress of South African Students (COSAS) in the Chris Hani Region has issued a public statement expressing support for Lusanda Sizani, following an instruction by the ANC Eastern Cape Provincial Integrity Commission that Sizani step aside pending a criminal matter.

In a statement dated 6 February 2026, COSAS said it viewed the development with “serious concern,” arguing that the circumstances surrounding the instruction should be understood within a broader political context. The organisation suggested that the timing and manner of the matter raised questions about whether it could be linked to internal political contestation.

COSAS described Sizani as a leader who has been active in service delivery, organisational renewal and community development in the Chris Hani District, adding that his leadership has resonated with young people and working-class communities in the region.

The student organisation cautioned against what it termed the “weaponisation” of internal organisational processes or legal matters to settle political disputes, warning that such actions could undermine unity and cohesion within the broader movement.

Emphasising its stance on justice and fairness, COSAS reiterated the principle that individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The organisation rejected what it called “trial by public opinion” and opposed any attempts to prematurely criminalise or politically isolate Sizani before formal processes are concluded.

The statement further called on progressive structures and members to remain alert to factional agendas that may threaten organisational stability. COSAS said it remained resolute in its support for Sizani and expressed confidence that due process would ultimately clarify the matter.
