Residents in Bergsig and Top Town are facing continued electricity disruptions as repair teams remain on site addressing an underground cable fault.

According to an update issued by Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, additional machinery has been deployed to the affected area to speed up repair work.

Cable Being Rerouted

Municipal teams are currently exposing the damaged cable. The cable will be rerouted to avoid underground water, which has been identified as a contributing factor to the fault.

Once the cable has been fully exposed, jointing work will begin. Cable jointing is a technical process that reconnects sections of electrical cable to restore power supply safely and securely.

Safety Switch-Off in Bergsig

The municipality confirmed that the section of Bergsig where electricity had been restored yesterday has been switched off again as a precautionary safety measure. This decision was taken because repair teams are still working in the area.

The temporary shutdown is intended to ensure the safety of technicians on site and to prevent further damage while the rerouting and jointing process is underway.

Ongoing Frustration for Residents

The repeated outages have affected households and businesses in Bergsig and parts of Top Town. While the municipality has increased machinery and manpower on site, no specific timeframe has been provided for full restoration.

Residents are urged to treat all electrical connections as live once power is restored and to report any additional faults through the municipality’s official channels.

Further updates are expected once the cable has been fully exposed and jointing is completed.
