A 25-year-old traditional nurse (ikhankatha) is behind bars after he allegedly stabbed his colleague to death following a heated “scuffle” outside an initiation hut.

SHOCKING DISCOVERY

Eastern Cape police were called to Mpuye Locality in the Maqhashu Administration Area around 11 PM on Thursday. When they arrived, they were met with a horrific sight.

The body of an adult male was lying lifeless on the ground. He had a single, deep stab wound between his shoulder and collarbone.

Police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect and the deceased were both traditional nurses tasked with looking after initiates.

“The duo allegedly had a scuffle outside the initiation hut. The suspect reportedly drew a knife and stabbed the victim. The man fell and died on the spot,” said Mgolodela.

ARRESTED!

Cops didn’t waste any time. After a short hunt, the 25-year-old suspect was found and handcuffed. He is expected to appear in the Cacadu Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 December, to face a charge of murder.

COPS ARE FUMING

The District Commissioner, Major General Rudolph Adolph, didn’t hold back his disappointment. He slammed the violent behavior, especially occurring in front of young men undergoing their rite of passage.

He said “I am disappointed at such a conduct as it will obviously traumatise the vulnerable initiates who solely depend upon the nurses for their survival”.
