14-Year-Old Boy Killed in Komani Hit-and-Run as Police Hunt Driver
A 14-year-old boy lost his life in a suspected hit-and-run incident on the N6 in Komani on Tuesday evening, with police now investigating the fatal crash and searching for the driver who fled the scene.
The incident occurred at about 5:45pm on 14 July 2026 on Cathcart Road, next to the 12 Apostolic Church building. The area is close to the Sasol garage, where the collision drew a large number of bystanders.
According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, it is alleged that the 14-year-old was crossing the road when he was struck by a vehicle travelling from the Cathcart direction.
“The vehicle did not stop and the suspect is not known,” said Mgolodela.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Komani SAPS, and investigations are underway to identify and trace the driver responsible.
Witnesses at the scene told Komani News that the teenager died instantly after being struck by the vehicle. Police have confirmed that the incident is being investigated as a fatal hit-and-run.
The tragedy has once again highlighted concerns about road safety and drivers fleeing the scenes of serious crashes instead of stopping to assist victims or report the incident to authorities.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has information that could help identify the vehicle or driver is encouraged to contact Komani SAPS or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. Information can also be provided anonymously.
