Shoes and Sanitary Towels Donated to Support Learners in Komani

The Eastern Cape Department of Education has handed over hundreds of essential items to learners at Chris Hani Full-Service School in Komani in an effort to support learners and promote dignity in education.

The donation, facilitated through the department’s Special Programmes Unit, included 600 pairs of school shoes and 100 sanitary towels. The items were donated by organisations Edrington and Inkcubeko neQhayiya.

According to the department, the initiative aims to ensure that learners are properly supported so they can focus on their education without unnecessary barriers.

Officials from the department visited the school on Monday to officially hand over the donations to learners and school representatives.

The department said the contribution will assist many learners who may struggle to access basic necessities needed for school, particularly proper footwear and sanitary products.

Access to school shoes can play an important role in ensuring learners attend school comfortably and confidently, while sanitary towels help ensure that girls do not miss school due to a lack of menstrual hygiene products.

The department also acknowledged the role played by its partners in supporting education initiatives in the province.

“Through partnerships with organisations such as Edrington and Inkcubeko neQhayiya, we are able to support our learners and ensure they can learn with dignity,” the department said.

The donation forms part of broader efforts by the Eastern Cape Department of Education to support vulnerable learners and promote inclusive education across the province.

Chris Hani Full-Service School is one of several schools in the region that benefits from programmes aimed at improving learner welfare and access to education.

Education authorities continue to encourage partnerships with private organisations and community groups to help address challenges faced by learners, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

By providing essential items such as school shoes and sanitary towels, stakeholders hope to create a more supportive learning environment where all learners are able to attend school with confidence and dignity.
