Underdogs Girona FC Crowned Easter Tournament Champions

Girona Football Club pulled off a stunning upset, defeating Try Again 3-1 in the Easter Tournament finals at Nomzamo Sport Grounds.

The Nkululekweni team’s victory was a testament to their hard work and dedication, having overcome tough opponents like Dynamos (3-0) in the semifinals.

“We planned the game hard with young players from our areas, hoping to take them away from the streets and give them a chance to shine,” said Coach Bathini Simon.

The team’s success is all the more impressive given their humble beginnings, with many players hailing from poor backgrounds.

Simon added, “These teams come from poor backgrounds and I have to take it from our own pockets to buy boots for the team. They are struggling and the team needs any assistance it could have to boost their moral.”

The tournament, organised by Lindokuhle Resha, was a resounding success, attracting large crowds and showcasing local talent.

“I’m planning to host more tournaments and encourage businesses to support local teams,” Resha said. Esibindini’s CEO Jomo Jaxa echoed this sentiment, calling for more corporate involvement in community sports initiatives.

Girona FC’s win is a feel-good story, proving that with determination and teamwork, even the underdogs can become champions.

The team’s next challenge is to secure promotion to a higher league and make a name for themselves in the soccer world.
