The community of Lady Frere is in shock following the death of 19-year-old Alive Poswa, who was fatally attacked by a group of youths while accompanied by his father in Hala No. 1.

The incident occurred on 13 January 2026, with Alive succumbing to his injuries the following morning, 14 January 2026, at a local hospital in Komani. Police have confirmed that suspects have been apprehended in connection with the attack.

Alive’s parent expressed deep sorrow and urged other families to educate their children about the dangers of carrying weapons and engaging in violent behaviour. “It has been extremely difficult to save my son from harm. I plead with other parents to work together to protect our children and warn them about the risks they expose themselves to,” the grieving parent said.

The young man is set to be laid to rest on 31 January 2026. Authorities continue to investigate the matter, while the community mourns the tragic loss.
