Unplanned Water Interruption Hits Komani After Treatment Plant Fault
Komani, Eastern Cape – Residents in Komani and surrounding areas are experiencing an unplanned water supply interruption following a technical problem at the Komani Water Treatment Plant.
According to a public notice issued by the Chris Hani District Municipality, the interruption is affecting the production of clear water that is normally pumped to the area’s reservoirs. As a result, water supply to parts of Komani and nearby communities has been disrupted.
The municipality confirmed that technical teams are currently on site working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. No estimated restoration time has yet been provided, but residents have been assured that updates will be communicated as progress is made.
What caused the interruption
The disruption stems from a technical fault at the Komani Water Treatment Plant, which has impacted the plant’s ability to maintain sufficient clear water levels. These levels are essential for pumping water to the areal reservoirs that supply households and businesses.
Municipal officials did not provide further technical details but emphasised that the matter is receiving urgent attention.
Watercarting to assist affected areas
To reduce the impact on residents, the Chris Hani District Municipality has confirmed that watercarting services will be deployed to affected areas during the interruption period.
Residents are encouraged to make use of the water provided and to store water responsibly while repairs are underway.
Municipality appeals for patience
The municipality issued an apology to residents for the inconvenience caused by the unplanned interruption and thanked the community for its patience and cooperation during the repair process.
