Queen’s College Rugby Star Jeffrey Niland Selected for Sharks Academy
Queen’s College Captain Jeffrey Niland Joins Sharks Academy
Komani, Eastern Cape — Former Queen’s College first team rugby captain Jeffrey Niland has been invited to join the Sharks Academy after completing his schooling at the end of 2025.
Niland led the Queen’s College first XV during a demanding school rugby season, where the team recorded notable wins against well-established rugby schools including Grey High School, Selborne College and St Andrew’s College. His role as captain saw him take responsibility both on and off the field, contributing to the team’s overall performances during the season.
Following the 2025 season, Niland was identified by Sharks scouts and offered an opportunity to join the Sharks Academy. The academy serves as a recognised development platform for young players progressing from school rugby, offering structured training and competitive exposure within the Sharks rugby system.
Entry into the academy places players in a performance-based environment where progression is determined by consistency, commitment and on-field contribution. It is a common pathway used by professional unions to assess and develop emerging talent from across the country.
Queen’s College has a long-standing rugby tradition within the Eastern Cape, and Niland’s selection adds to the school’s record of producing players who advance into provincial rugby structures.
The news has been positively received in the Komani sporting community, where school rugby continues to play an important role in developing young athletes.
Komani News congratulates Jeffrey Niland on his selection to the Sharks Academy and wishes him well as he takes the next step in his rugby career.
