Traffic Disruption Expected Near Queen’s College Recreation Grounds
KOMANI – Residents and motorists are advised to expect increased traffic congestion in the vicinity of the Queen’s College Recreation Grounds over the coming days as the Eastern Cape Provincial Primary School Athletics Championships take place on the tartan track at the facility.
Large numbers of learners, coaches, and officials from across the province are expected to attend the event, which will run until Saturday afternoon.
According to organisers, buses transporting participating schools have already started arriving in Komani and will continue to do so throughout the event period. The influx of vehicles is expected to significantly increase traffic volumes in streets surrounding the Recreation Grounds.
Increased Vehicle and Pedestrian Traffic
Motorists travelling near the Queen’s College Rec area should be prepared for slower traffic conditions as buses, support vehicles and pedestrians move in and out of the venue.
The championships are expected to bring a large number of young athletes and spectators to the facility, meaning there will also be a noticeable increase in pedestrian activity around the surrounding roads.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution, particularly when travelling near entrances to the grounds, bus drop-off zones and pedestrian crossing areas.
Residents Asked for Patience
Residents and road users in the area have been asked to be patient and allow extra travel time when passing through the vicinity of the Recreation Grounds during the championships.
The athletics event is a major provincial school sporting competition and is expected to attract participants from multiple districts across the Eastern Cape.
Traffic levels are expected to remain elevated until Saturday afternoon, when the buses begin departing following the conclusion of the championships.
Motorists are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly and remain alert for increased pedestrian movement in the area.
