Severe Thunderstorms Expected in Komani Today – SAWS Warning
Komani, Eastern Cape –Residents in and around Komani are being urged to stay alert as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms today from 12:00 to 23:59.
The warning predicts heavy rainfall, large hail, strong winds, and possible flooding, which could lead to damage to property, infrastructure, and hazardous driving conditions in Komani and nearby areas.
Local authorities advise residents to:
-
Stay indoors where possible and avoid unnecessary travel.
-
Secure loose items around homes that could be damaged or blown away.
-
Avoid low-lying areas and river crossings, as flooding is likely.
-
Exercise extreme caution on the roads, as hail and heavy rain reduce visibility and increase accident risks.
SAWS also highlighted the possibility of lightning strikes, which may pose a danger to those outdoors. Emergency services in the Queenstown/Komani region are on alert to respond to storm-related incidents.
Residents are encouraged to monitor official SAWS updates, local news channels, and municipal alerts throughout the day. With summer storms becoming more intense in the Eastern Cape, preparedness is essential to protect lives and property.
