Selborne says issues with Jake White resolved amicably, partnership continues
Selborne College says internal issues around its rugby programme have been resolved after the circulation of an internal email sparked concern and social media commentary.
In a media release dated 17 April 2026, the school acknowledged the reaction to the leaked email and said it wanted to address the uncertainty that followed.
The college also apologised to the wider Selborne community for the negativity that arose after the email was shared on social media.
Partnership with Jake White to continue
According to the statement, Selborne will continue working in partnership with Jake White as part of efforts to strengthen and advance its rugby programme.
The school said the internal issues had been resolved amicably and that the partnership would continue as part of a renewed approach to the future of rugby at the school.
Selborne said the relationship is based on aligning goals and creating a clear, combined vision that supports excellence both on and off the field.
Rugby part of broader school strategy
The school said its rugby programme forms part of a wider strategic approach in which sport is intended to support growth and development across all school sporting codes.
It said the aim is to build a cohesive and high-performing environment that nurtures talent, discipline and character, while also contributing meaningfully to the broader development of learners.
Selborne further said the rugby programme is intended not only to improve sporting performance, but also to support academic, cultural and sporting excellence as part of the school’s long-term sustainability.
Leadership backs implemented structure
The statement said the headmaster, staff, school governing body, the Old Selbornian Association and the Selborne Foundation Trust remain committed to the success of the rugby structure that has been put in place.
The school said this structure would be aligned with Selborne’s vision, values, governance structures and long-term objectives, as with its other sports.
Selborne also described the development as a positive step forward, saying it reflects a renewed and forward-looking chapter for the rugby programme, centred on collaboration, shared purpose and sustainability.
The college said it remains committed to principled leadership and sound governance in the best interests of every learner.
The media release was signed by school governing body chairman Mr A. Pringle and headmaster Mr A. Dewar.
