Grey Street Residents Still Without Power Days After Vehicle Crash

Komani – Residents in Grey and Prince Alfred Streets remain without electricity following a vehicle accident early Tuesday morning that damaged a municipal power pole.

The collision caused the pole to break and brought down power cables, cutting electricity to several households. Municipal contractors have been on site since the incident, working to repair the damage and restore supply, but as of Thursday, 5 March, the outage continues.

Lonwabo Kowa, municipal spokesperson, confirmed the situation: “Power supply was interrupted for part in Grey and Prince Alfred Streets due to fallen cables. An electrical pole was damaged and broken after being accidentally hit by a vehicle. A Municipal contractor is currently making repairs, and supply will be restored for the affected households. Today the area will have supply.”

The accident also caused partial road disruptions, with crews working to secure the area and prevent hazards from live or potentially live cables. Residents are advised to exercise caution around the fallen lines and to report any further damage to the municipality.

Local households have been relying on alternative power sources, while officials continue monitoring repairs closely to ensure electricity is restored safely. The municipality has urged patience, emphasising that safety is the top priority in completing the repairs.
