Fuel Price Relief On The Cards For South Africans

South African motorists and households are expected to receive major fuel price relief from Wednesday, 1 July 2026, although the final figures still have to be officially confirmed.

According to the latest unaudited fuel price estimates, Diesel 50ppm could decrease by about R3.70 per litre, illuminating paraffin by about R5.30 per litre, and Petrol 95 ULP by about R1.60 per litre.

The estimated decreases are understood to already include the return of fuel levy relief, estimated at around R1.50 per litre. Final prices may still differ once the official adjustment is announced by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources.

The expected drop is mainly linked to a sharp cooling in global oil prices after weeks of pressure caused by conflict in the Middle East. Earlier supply fears were driven by disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
