Fallen Trees Create Hazard on R58 Near Engcobo
Motorists travelling along the R58 near Engcobo are being urged to exercise caution as strong winds continue to cause dangerous conditions on the route, including fallen trees partially blocking sections of the road.
Trees were reported to have fallen on R410 turn-off towards Engcobo. The obstruction created hazardous driving conditions for vehicles travelling through the area, particularly during periods of strong wind gusts.
Road authorities have since confirmed that a quick response team has been deployed to actively patrol the R58 and R67 routes in an effort to clear fallen trees and respond rapidly to wind-related incidents affecting motorists.
The team was reportedly established following ongoing issues with falling trees that began affecting the route from Monday. Patrols are expected to continue until at least Thursday while the windy weather conditions persist across parts of the Eastern Cape.
The strong winds have created concerns for road safety, especially on open stretches of road where falling branches, debris, and reduced visibility can pose risks to drivers.
Motorists using the R58 are advised to reduce speed, remain alert, and approach affected sections carefully as conditions may change quickly depending on wind intensity.
Authorities have also encouraged road users to continue reporting fallen trees and other hazards along the route to assist response teams in clearing obstructions as quickly as possible
