Breaking: Man Arrested for Alleged Beheading of Girlfriend in Qamata

A 33-year-old man has been arrested by Bridge Camp police following allegations that he murdered his 28-year-old girlfriend on the night of Tuesday, 27 January 2026.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 20:45 at Besedi Farm in the Gwatyu area under the Qamata Administration Area. The deceased had reportedly visited her boyfriend, who is now the suspect, at his home earlier that evening.

The couple was allegedly last seen together in a shack situated behind the main house on the property.

Discovery of the Body

Police say the suspect’s brother became suspicious when the suspect went to sleep with him in the main house while his girlfriend remained in the shack.

When the brother went to the shack where the couple usually slept, he allegedly found the body of the deceased lying on the floor, with her head severed and placed next to her body.

He then returned to the main house, informed his father of what he had discovered, and neighbours were called. Police were subsequently summoned to the scene.

Police Arrest and Confession

Upon arrival, police reportedly found the suspect asleep in the main house, with blood stains visible on his clothing.

After waking him and questioning him about the incident, the suspect allegedly confessed to police that he had killed his girlfriend. He further showed officers where the axe used in the commission of the offence was hidden.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody.

Court Appearance

The suspect is expected to make his first court appearance at the Cofimvaba Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 January 2026.

Police Condemn the Killing

The Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Vukile Ntandane, strongly condemned the killing.

He said police “grossly condemned such barbaric brutality at the time when everyone in the country is up in arms fighting the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide.”
