Motorists are being warned that the N2 between Mthatha and Qumbu (towards Kokstad) is currently closed due to protest action.
Authorities have advised that road users must avoid the area and make use of alternative routes approved by officials.
There are also serious safety concerns for heavy vehicles. Trucks, particularly those carrying goods, are strongly urged to stay away from the route, as the area has previously been identified as a high-risk hotspot for looting during protest incidents.
Motorists travelling between the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal are encouraged to:
- Delay travel if possible
- Follow official traffic updates
- Use only verified alternative routes
This is a developing situation, and conditions on the ground may change rapidly.
