The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms in parts of the northeastern Eastern Cape on Monday, 26 October 2026.
The warning is valid from 08:00 until 20:59 on Monday.
According to SAWS, a developing weather system is expected to bring thunderstorms across the eastern half of the province. Some storms in the northeastern areas could become severe, bringing heavy downpours, strong winds and hail.
The weather service has warned that these conditions could cause localised damage to homes, property and temporary structures.
Power outages and disruptions to communication services are also possible, while heavy rainfall could result in flooding of roads and low-lying bridges.
Farmers are also advised to take precautions, as severe weather conditions could lead to the loss of livestock and damage to crops.
The warning map indicates that the Yellow Level 2 alert is concentrated in the northeastern parts of the province, with Komani falling outside the highlighted warning area.
Residents in affected areas are urged to remain cautious, avoid crossing flooded roads and bridges, and seek shelter during severe thunderstorms.
Motorists travelling through affected areas should exercise caution, particularly where heavy rainfall reduces visibility or causes water to accumulate on roads.
The public is encouraged to monitor further updates from the South African Weather Service as weather conditions develop throughout the day.
