Woman dies in late-night rollover near Molteno

A woman was killed and another person injured after a vehicle lost control and overturned on the R56 near Molteno late on Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 11pm on 1 July on the R56-3 route.

On arrival, paramedics found that one female occupant had sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. Another occupant suffered injuries and was treated by emergency personnel before being transported to Molteno Hospital for further treatment.

No occupants were trapped inside the vehicle following the crash.

Police, emergency medical services, forensic pathology services and a local breakdown service responded to the incident and remained on scene while recovery operations were carried out.

The circumstances surrounding the crash have not yet been disclosed and investigations into the cause of the accident are expected to continue.

The latest fatal crash comes as concerns remain over road safety on routes across the Chris Hani District, particularly during night-time travel and winter conditions when visibility can be reduced.
