Three Reported Dead, 12 Injured in Kugompo (East London) Accident
Three people have reportedly lost their lives and 12 others were injured following a head-on collision on Black Road at Gompo in Duncan Village on Monday evening, 24 August.
The crash involved a Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Quantum which were travelling in opposite directions.
According to preliminary information, the Quantum, carrying 12 passengers, was travelling from Gompo towards Qonce, while the Corolla was carrying two male occupants.
Both occupants of the Corolla, including the driver, were declared dead at the scene.
The 12 occupants of the Quantum sustained various injuries and were taken to Cecilia Makiwane Hospital and Frere Hospital for further medical attention. The driver of the Quantum was reportedly unharmed.
While the initial information reports three fatalities, details surrounding the third reported death were not provided.
Reckless and negligent driving is alleged to have contributed to the collision. The exact circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Duncan Village SAPS for further investigation.
