Clean Queenstown, a long-standing non-profit organisation dedicated to keeping the town clean, continues to make an impact through consistent community-driven projects. Over the years, the organisation has spearheaded numerous clean-up efforts across Komani, promoting civic pride and environmental awareness.

This week, the group turned its attention to the road leading to Bonkolo Dam, following a special request ahead of next week’s Bonkolo Marathon. The initiative aimed to ensure that both locals and visitors experience the natural beauty of the area free from the blight of litter and illegal dumping.

Disappointing Discovery Along Bonkolo Dam Road

Volunteers were disheartened to find the roadside heavily polluted with litter, garden refuse, and building rubble. Much of the waste appeared to have been left by local residents, highlighting ongoing challenges with public dumping and environmental neglect.

Despite these conditions — including burnt rubbish and torn bags that complicated the clean-up — the Clean Queenstown team persevered, showing their commitment to making a tangible difference.

Local Business Lends a Helping Hand

When the team began to run low on supplies, Truda Foods stepped forward with a generous contribution. The company provided 50 heavy-duty 50kg sacks and one of their trucks to assist with transporting the collected refuse.

This collaboration made it possible for the volunteers to remove a significant amount of waste and continue their work with renewed momentum. The Clean Queenstown organisers expressed gratitude for the support, calling it a powerful example of local businesses partnering with community organisations to achieve lasting change.

A Step Closer to a Cleaner Komani

While progress was made, there’s still more to be done before the clean-up is complete. The group intends to return to the site to finish clearing remaining debris in time for the Bonkolo Marathon.

Clean Queenstown emphasised that this project forms part of their long-term mission to build a cleaner, more responsible community, encouraging residents to dispose of waste properly and take pride in their surroundings.
