Snow falls between Middelburg and Noupoort as cold front grips region
Motorists travelling between Middelburg and Noupoort have been warned to drive with caution after snowfall was reported in the Carlton Heights and Lootsberg areas on Wednesday morning.
According to information received by Komani News, drivable snow was falling near Lootsberg towards Middelburg, creating difficult and potentially slippery driving conditions along parts of the route.
The snowfall comes as icy weather conditions continue affecting large parts of the Eastern Cape interior, with temperatures dropping sharply across several towns.
Drivers travelling through mountain passes and higher-lying areas have been urged to reduce speed, increase following distance and remain alert for possible ice patches on the road surface.
No major road closures or crashes had been confirmed at the time of publication, but conditions may change rapidly depending on the intensity of the snowfall.
Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the situation as the cold front moves through the province.
Motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel through affected areas if possible and to check for updates before departing.
