Shock as lifeless body of Ward 9 councillor is discovered
Sakhisizwe Municipality Mourns Death of Ward 9 Councillor Tasana
CALA / ELLIOT – Sakhisizwe Local Municipality has confirmed the passing of Ward 9 councillor Tasana, describing his death as a devastating loss to both the council and the broader community.
The municipality announced the news in an official media statement issued on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, saying it received the information with “heavy hearts”.
Body Found in Ward 9
According to the statement, Councillor Tasana’s lifeless body was discovered in Ward 9. At this stage, the circumstances surrounding his death remain unknown, and no further details have been released.
The municipality said it learned of the councillor’s passing on the same day the statement was issued. Authorities have not yet indicated whether an investigation is under way, and officials have urged patience while further information is awaited.
Served Since 2021
Councillor Tasana was sworn in during the current term of office in 2021 and served as the elected councillor for Ward 9. During his time in office, he was regarded as a committed public representative who took his responsibilities seriously.
The municipality said Tasana served not only his ward but the entire Sakhisizwe Local Municipality with dedication, commitment and energy.
Remembered as a Dedicated Public Servant
In its tribute, the municipality described Councillor Tasana as a passionate leader who cared deeply about the people he served. He was particularly committed to youth development and the economic development of the municipality.
His “boisterous nature” and energetic approach to his work were highlighted as qualities that endeared him to both colleagues and community members. Municipal officials said his death leaves a significant void within council structures and among residents of Ward 9.
Mayor Expresses Shock and Grief
Sakhisizwe Executive Mayor, Councillor Boniswa Ponoshe, expressed deep shock at the loss, describing Councillor Tasana as a “true comrade and servant of the people”.
“The death of Cllr Tasana comes as a massive shock to the institution and the community of Sakhisizwe,” Ponoshe said in the statement.
She added that Tasana served the community of Ward 9 with diligence and vigour, and worked tirelessly to fulfil the mandate of service delivery entrusted to him.
“He leaves an undeniable void in the council which he has served with since 2021,” the mayor said.
Condolences to Family and Community
The municipality extended its condolences to Councillor Tasana’s family, friends, colleagues and the wider community during what it described as a tragic time.
Residents and members of the public were urged to respect the family’s privacy and allow them space to grieve. The municipality indicated that further details would be communicated once they become available.
