Pedestrian dies after being hit by car outside Komani
A pedestrian has died and another was injured after being struck by a vehicle on the R67 just outside Komani on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred on 12 April 2026 at around 20:00 near Dicla farm, a short distance outside the town.
Eastern Cape SAPS spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela confirmed the details to Komani News.
“Komani police were summoned to a scene on the R67 near Dicla farm around 20:00 on 12 April where two people were hit by a car. Police responded and on arrival, one person had already been taken by ambulance to hospital, while the other was certified dead at the scene,” she said.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
Case opened, suspect identified
Police have opened a culpable homicide case following the crash.
Mgolodela confirmed that the driver involved has been identified, with further legal steps now pending.
“A case of culpable homicide was opened. The suspect is known and police are awaiting a decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for instruction to arrest,” she said.
No arrest has been made at this stage.
Investigation continues
The circumstances leading up to the collision are still under investigation. Authorities have not yet confirmed how the pedestrians came to be on the road or what may have caused the crash.
Road safety concerns outside Komani
The stretch of the R67 just outside Komani is frequently used by both vehicles and pedestrians, particularly in areas where farms and settlements are located nearby.
Low visibility at night and limited pedestrian infrastructure can increase the risk of serious incidents.
Motorists are urged to remain alert, especially after dark, while pedestrians are encouraged to take extra care when walking along or crossing roads in the area.
