WSU convocation appointment for Komani graduate Combi
Komani – The ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) in the Chris Hani Region has congratulated Komani-born graduate Charmaine Lusanda Combi following her election to the Convocation Chapter of Walter Sisulu University (WSU).
The announcement was made in a statement issued on 12 April 2026 by the ANCWL Chris Hani Region, describing the appointment as a recognition of Combi’s academic achievements and leadership within both community and political structures.
Combi, a graduate of the WSU Komani campus, has built an academic profile spanning several qualifications in finance, auditing and education. According to the statement, her most recent qualification is a Postgraduate Diploma (Honours) in Internal Auditing, completed in 2025 through the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. She also holds a Certificate in Municipal Finance Management.
Her academic journey includes a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, specialising in Accounting and Economic Management Sciences, obtained from Walter Sisulu University in 2023. Prior to that, she completed a BTech in Internal Auditing (2018), a National Diploma in Internal Auditing (2017), and an NHC in Accountancy (2015).
Leadership and community involvement
Beyond her academic record, Combi has been involved in a number of leadership and governance roles in the region.
She previously served as a board member at Frontier Hospital and has been part of the finance committee of the School Governing Body at Hexagon High School in Komani.
Her involvement in youth and political structures includes roles within the Young Communist League of South Africa, as well as leadership positions in the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in the Chris Hani Region. She has also served as Secretary of the ANCYL in the Enoch Mgijima sub-region and held a leadership role in the South African Youth Council locally.
Role in local government
Professionally, Combi is employed within the Finance Department of the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality, where she works as a debt collector. The ANCWL said her role contributes to improving financial accountability in local government structures.
Recognition from ANC Women’s League
In its statement, the ANC Women’s League said Combi’s election reflects her commitment to service, discipline and community development.
The organisation added that her appointment to the WSU Convocation Chapter represents an opportunity to contribute to the development of graduates and the broader university community.
The Convocation Chapter at universities typically serves as a platform connecting alumni with institutional development, governance input and community engagement.
Wider significance
While the statement is celebratory in nature, Combi’s election also reflects a broader trend of young professionals from Komani and the Chris Hani District taking up roles in governance, education and public institutions.
Her background in auditing and municipal finance comes at a time when local government accountability remains a key issue across the region, with ongoing challenges around service delivery and financial management.
