Notorious Murder Suspect Killed in Umlazi Shootout with Police

A notorious murder suspect was shot and killed in a dramatic shootout with police in Umlazi on the morning of 3 November 2025, while his accomplice sustained critical injuries during the incident.

The suspects were being pursued by members of the SAPS Inanda Task Team in conjunction with the Provincial Tracing Team, following intelligence linking them to multiple serious crimes.

Authorities confirmed that the main suspect was wanted in connection with at least four murders and two attempted murders, including the killing of a taxi owner in Newtown A and a separate triple murder case under investigation.

Shootout Erupts During Arrest Attempt

Police reported that when officers approached the suspects, they opened fire, prompting SAPS members to return fire in self-defence. Both suspects were struck during the exchange. The main suspect died on the scene, while the accomplice was critically injured and rushed to hospital for treatment.

Investigators recovered firearms from the scene, which are believed to have been used in the suspects’ criminal activities. Further ballistics and forensic analysis are underway to link the recovered weapons to the outstanding cases.

Police Statement

SAPS spokespersons emphasised that the operation was intelligence-driven, aimed at removing violent offenders from the community and preventing further loss of life. The police thanked community members who provided information that led to the tracing and eventual confrontation with the suspects.

“The swift action by the Inanda Task Team and Provincial Tracing Team highlights our commitment to bringing dangerous criminals to justice and ensuring the safety of the public,” said the spokesperson.

Background on the Suspect

The deceased suspect had long been considered a high-priority target for law enforcement due to his alleged involvement in multiple violent crimes across the KwaZulu-Natal region. His accomplice remains in critical condition, and police are continuing to investigate the network and any additional associates connected to the killings.
