Most Power Back on Day 14, But Several Komani Streets Still Off
Grey Street Restored Overnight as Some Komani Streets Remain Off on Day 14
Parts of Komani affected by the ongoing electricity outage — now entering Day 14 for some streets — have begun to see relief after sections of the network were restored overnight. According to a resident in the area, Grey Street was reconnected at around 9pm and remained on this morning, but several surrounding streets are still without supply.
The latest update from Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality confirms that most portions of Queens Drive, Grey Street, Prince Alfred Street, and Ebden Street have been re-energised. However, the municipality has warned that excavation and cable laying in Grey Street near Griffiths Street will continue, requiring temporary road closures.
Further Work Needed Despite Grey Street Being Restored
Although power has been restored to parts of Grey Street, repair teams are still working along the trench line to complete cabling and secure the remaining infrastructure. Residents have noted visible progress this week, though the extended outage has caused significant disruption to both households and businesses in the area.
Municipal technicians are continuing excavation to reach damaged underground components, and the temporary closure of portions of Grey Street will remain in place while work is finalised.
Some Streets Still Affected on Day 14
Not all affected areas have been restored. Several nearby streets remain off, prompting growing frustration from residents who have spent nearly two weeks without electricity. Many have expressed the difficulty of managing daily life during the prolonged outage, especially as other streets see supply restored.
Local businesses operating in the outage zone say the financial strain has been severe, with generator use increasing operational costs and reducing trading hours.
Mlungisi Area Back Online
In a separate update, the municipality confirmed that the portion of Mlungisi affected by a low-voltage cable fault is now back online. Teams located the damaged section earlier this week after a breaker tripped due to the fault.
