TRAGIC: Apparent Suicide Bid Rocks KZN Highway

Cornubia, KZN – A horrifying scene unfolded on the R102 southbound lane opposite the Cornubia Flats early this morning (Thursday, 04 December 2025) when an unidentified man allegedly ran directly into the path of an oncoming truck in what authorities suspect was a suicide attempt.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) rushed to the scene at approximately 06:42 AM following reports of a devastating pedestrian accident.

DRIVER IN SHOCK: “I COULDN’T STOP!”

The distressed driver of the white FUSO 4-ton truck gave a chilling account of the incident to Reaction Officers.

According to the driver, the victim was standing calmly on the side of the road just moments before impact. As the truck approached, the man allegedly sprinted directly into the lane, giving the driver zero chance to stop or swerve.

“He stated that he was unable to stop in time to avoid impact,” RUSA reported.

BIZARRE ATTIRE FUELS SUICIDE SUSPICION

The victim’s appearance at the time of the incident has intensified suspicion that the man intended to take his own life.

He was reportedly:

• Dressed in a hoodie with the hood pulled tightly over his face, completely obscuring his features.

• Barefoot at the time of the fatal crash.

Adding to the tragic narrative, residents from a nearby housing complex told Reaction Officers they had watched the man standing alongside the roadway for a considerable time, appearing to monitor traffic before making his fatal dash.

The truck driver corroborated these devastating observations.

DECLARED DEAD AT THE SCENE

RUSA Paramedics immediately assessed the man upon arrival, but tragically, he was declared deceased on the scene.

Authorities are now working to identify the victim and notify his family. This horrifying incident serves as a stark and tragic reminder of the hidden struggles faced by many.
