Learners Injured After Vehicle Crashes Into Get Ahead College

Several learners were injured on Thursday morning after a vehicle lost control and crashed into the grounds of Get Ahead College in Komani.

According to information shared with parents and guardians by the school, the incident occurred during the morning drop-off period. A vehicle leaving the designated drop-off area allegedly lost control, accelerated across the road, broke through the school fence and entered the school premises, where it came to a stop after colliding with a tree in the tuck shop quad.

A number of learners who were in the area at the time of the incident sustained injuries. Emergency services were immediately dispatched and arrived on the scene to provide medical assistance. Initial assessments indicated that none of the injuries were life-threatening.

School management confirmed that the injured pupils were treated for concussions, abrasions and were assessed for other possible injuries. All affected learners were conscious, responsive and able to participate in the first-aid procedures carried out on site.

Parents and guardians of the injured learners were contacted directly by the school. Learners requiring further medical evaluation were transported to hospital for treatment, accompanied by school staff members and the school’s social worker to ensure both medical and emotional support.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured and is reportedly cooperating with the school and relevant authorities. The exact cause of the loss of control has not yet been confirmed and is expected to be investigated.

The school assured parents that learner safety remains a priority and that support measures, including counselling, will be made available to learners who may have been affected by the incident.

“We will keep parents and guardians informed should there be any material changes to this statement,” the school said.
